Breakaway Bicycle Couriers sponsored the very first alleycat race in Milwaukee last Saturday. Fifteen racers participated in the race of approximately four miles and were required at various checkpoints to imitate Jar Jar Binks, recite Goth poetry, and slam a shot of Jack Daniels. The winner received a nice mess bag, two runners-up received jerseys, and we were all promised T-shirts to arrive some time in the future... Your correspondent wasted about ten minutes looking for the attendant at a checkpoint which had been deleted from the race and finished lucky 13th. The race ended at a street fair where we were entertained by Eugene Chadbourne among others. Milwaukee's next alleycat is scheduled for St Valentine's Day, only three weeks after the Stupor Bowl in Minneapolis. Plan now to make a month-long Midwestern winter vacation out of the two events!!
