ten compulsory checkpoints, twenty bonus checkpoints - either find information or grab a freebie
twelve showed, eleven finished
duration 1hr30mins, manned checkpoints open for an hour.
with marshals in position; racers clutching manifests, instruction sheets, spare tubes and asking me where the first checkpoint was, I set them along their merry way
le mans start to locked bikes (thru a freshly laid cement pathway) to
1 alec robinson footbridge (walkway from raine square to northbridge busport)
2 herisson island (on the swan river)
3 mciver station (east perth)
4 eric silbert gardens (city)
5 jacobs ladder (west perth)
6 fuel bar (northbridge)
7 cathedral square (city)
8 mountain terrace (northbridge)
9 constitutional centre (west perth)
10 munster lane (city)
not a particularly difficult course, but the hour time limit meant they really had to hustle to complete the manifest. and the bonus's would slow them down even more
however, our best laid plans went askew when over half the field couldn't find the marshals at checkpoints one and three. racers - try opening your eyes, and bobby - maybe you shouldve gone for a piss before the race started

unfortunately, in the heat of the moment, the positions of all the other riders was, erm, thrown away - sorry I meant lost
other bits and pieces (flashing frame pads, squeaky monkey head water bottles, hamburger bells etc) were awarded to dave/bring, byron/team punani, nico/bike-it, micheal/super,and scotty mcfimbuttocks/messenger post
sam/ex-dx bust his chained, got dfl and the pink pump for his efforts
special mentions go to: angus, dan and byron for losing skin at the constitutional centre, dave for spending most of the race in barbarellas, scotty for doing the single speed thing again, nico for not falling off, scotty (again) and micheal for riding straight past the marshals on more than one occasion dan (again) for being the most pissed/stoned out of towner, and finally to ben, for following everyones wheel - oh sorry, I meant to say thanks angus for giving everyone a tow

finalists are adrian punani (2 wins), brooksy (1 win), angus punani (seconded by kenny) and ben super (seconded by jav)
the first series is over, with the final to be held soon. i think it was fun, and maybe we've learnt something new about the city we live in, and its good to note that our enthusiasm has helped melbourne and adelaide get their alleycat scene started - well it would've happened anyway; i just gotta chance to nag someone outside of perth
