The Fourth of July alley cat was a BIG success this year, even without the grand prize of tickets to the CMWC that we've had the last two years.  Before I give with the results, I have to give a super shout out to all the sponsors that made the race especially awesome:  Poison Spider Bikes of Moab, Bellwether, Zoic, Swobo, Salsa Cycles, Timbuk2, the Freewheel Bike Shop, Zeitgeist, and the Tempest all kicked down with major prizes for our racers.  Also a big fat thank you to the checkpoint workers Mikae and President Howard (blue nail polish) at Sidney G. Walton aka Jackson Park, Bok Choy and Louie (sticker) at Roach Alley, Luigi and Eric (red nail polish) at the Horseshoe Pits, and Joe Correo (white nail polish) at checkpoint Java.  The other eight un-manned checkpoints were Butte, Pink, Belcher, Perry/Vassar, Midway, Washington/Maple, Rossi Playground at Arguello and Anza, and Guy.  All of these checkpoints were taken from previous alley cat races over the past three years, hence the theme "ReCycled Alley Cat."   To be a complete finisher one had to have all eight clues from the unmanned checkpoints, and red, white, and blue nail polish plus a sticker from the four manned checkpoints.  Twenty riders started the race, and seventeen completed the course and ended up at the back yard of the Zeitgeist.  And now, the results, ladies first:

In addition to good prizes for all racers, I managed to raise one hundred dollars to go towards a second plane ticket to Toronto's Human Powered Rollercoaster race Halloween weekend, so that San Francisco can send a male and female winner from the qualifier race on September 25th to compete on the figure-eight track.  A round-trip ticket typically costs around three hundred dollars, so we are going to have to scrape up another two bills between now and October to make it happen.  Donations are welcome!!  Contact me if you want to contribute, or if you have any fundraising ideas towards this end.  Thanks again to everyone who raced, worked and donated.
