CMWC '98 Open Forum Agenda
The following is the agenda for the CMWC '98 Open Forum. Last year, we started out on the right foot, with an agenda predetermined, a precedent that needed to be set. Discussion and inquiry concerning this agenda are heartily encouraged among CMWC attendees prior to the forum; we regard such threshing out of individual opinions as essential for acheiving informed consent. That said, the following are the ideas to be covered in discussion - nothing here is predecided or set in stone - we are here to decide that at this meeting. Do note that additional agenda items will not be added at this point.
The pre-event open forum (discussion only) will be held Thurs, 9/3 at 5pm
The post-event open forum (decisions only) will be held Tues, 9/8 at 5pm
In addition, there will be a third forum held to discuss non-CMWC topics held Tues, 9/8 at noon.
All three forums will be held at Patagonia, 1048 Wisconsin Ave, NW
1. What sort of event do we want? If we had a perfect championships, how would it go?
- the realism factor - locks at every checkpoint? "real" messenger bags required? "real" messengers? (how do we confirm this?)
- longer races? mandatory 3 days racing? everyone races at least twice?
- more "fun" events - tire changing, lock quick draw, fixed gear skid, quick stop?
- dq/suspension for repeated unsportsmanlike conduct?
- is the le mans start really neccessary? is there some way we can make it safer for the bikes?
2. Future structure of the CMWC?
- Open forum as regulating body? - those who take the time/interest to attend (or have someone represent them) get the voice - ie no whining. make the effort, get the vote. (see "Nature of the open forum" below)
or...
- committee? - term limits neccessary?
- representatives? - not electoral style, each area gets equal number of votes/reps
- committee takes over sponsor search? easier for sponsors to deal with a more consistant bargaining body?
- or, committee serves simply as advisors concerning the process (ie the open forum)
- possibility of a committee gaining too much power over the event? - it would need accountability
3. Clarification of the CMWC host city selection process as decided in Barcelona.
4. Nature of the open forum
5. International Federation of Bike Messenger Associations
