Sydney, 10 Oct 98

We had a race here today in sydney. Overcast sky, threat of rain, checkpoints in the 'burbs, and little advance notice all resulted in a reasonably small field. What we lacked in numbers we made up for in vim and vigour; courier racing being the real winner, etc.

The race started at the Palisades Hotel in Millers Point, 1st checkpoint was on the McElone Stairs in Woolloomooloo/Potts Point, 2nd was on Palmer Lane in Darlinghurst, 3rd was in the pedestrian underpass under the old train line in Glebe, 4th checkpoint ( not known of until arrival at 3rd checkpoint) was on the sandstone of (the little-known) Cardigan Street in Glebe, 5th was on (the also little-known) Experiment Street in Pyrmont, 6th was back in the Palisades, 7th was 168 Walker St in North Sydney, and the finish was back at the Palisades.

And the results:

1. Ollie mail call 38:33
2. Klayton mc 38:33
3. Craige direct 40:56
4. Wayde braggs 42:55
5. Laurie allied 44:23
6. Ian x force 45:23
7. Andrew mc 46:03
8. Jason mc 46:04
9. Warrick mc 47:52
dnf. Sean mc retired hurt (emotionally)
dnf. Mark braggs geographically traumatised.

A merry afternoon was had by all. We were joined in the pub by 2 wedding groups and one group of young men on a pub crawl. The rain didn't fall on us. The location of some of the checkpoints was a mystery to some, and new and interesting routes were taken, all to the benefit of post race amusement.
