Pelican was my first messenger job and the only place I've ever been the best-paid messenger so I still retain a nostalgic infatuation with the company. Pelican: where the owner has absolutely no idea where streets are located, doesn't care anyway, and hires bikers exclusively on their looks. The company where you can be expected to work ten hours without a lunch, carry anything from chandeliers to music stands to five-foot flats over hill and dale, and be happy to see $50 for the day's work.
To share this experience with others I designed the Pelican Delivery Alleycat Race. All the stops where actually Pelican clients (I mercifully left out 949 Presidio, 1235 De Haro, 1100 Montgomery, etc.) and the three checkpoints were manned by famous Pelican veterans: Joel, Bok Choy, and Damon, who gave riders 3-foot tubes, 2.5"x2.5" flats, and finally milk crates which they had to carry to the finish line.
Finishers were:
First Place: Maria Schur!!! (She won the Pelican racing shirt & bag o' Proj)
Second Place: Broiler (original artwork by Louie & Pelican statue)
Third Place: John Seagravy
Mediocre: Junior!
Third to Last: Nectar
Penultimate: Stephanie Royston
Dead Fucking Last: Thomas "Anchor" Miller
Thanks to everyone involved. The after party was @ CW's where Asshole, Anonymous Beef, and Sunless Day entertained and we raised $183 for Louie.
