Nothing like flying across Washington on a dark damp dreary valentines night. Race format: 20 checkpoints worth various points from 10 to 50 bonus points for completing special tasks at certain points. 1 hour to visit as many checkpoints as possible, then 15 minutes to return to finish. A good score was around 220 points.
Men - 1st place: Chris "The Highest Chris" Schmidt - 317 points. Truly one of the purist and fastest riders Išve ever seen. A great champion for us to send to Toronto. 2nd place: Dedric - 315 points. The second DC race in a row in which he took second. Hešs one of our best all around couriers and should be in Toronto so look out. 3rd place: Mark Kerlin - 280 points. He also won a tattoo for being first at a particular checkpoint. He really wanted the tattoo, made his choice and outsprinted several fast racers for it.
And how many cities can field an entire womens race? DC can and did and here are the top finishers: 1st place: Laura Vogel - 195 points. One of DCšs toughest couriers, she barely squeaked this one out. She'll be in Toronto, and is capable of riding among the fastest men when she feels like it. She's famous for her amazing traffic skills and unmatchable desire. 2nd place: Rebecca Reilly - 167 points. 3rd place: Jennifer Miller - 195 points (more points than Rebecca, but she rode with a teammate, so...). Shešs an excellent rider and not even a courier - she works at a local bike shop, and proved to us all she can hang on the streets. Maybe its time for her to come outside.
Andy Zalan really put together a great race in a really short time everyone rode safely and the rain didnšt start til just after the race, so we didnšt get really wet til the ride home.
